Situated within a private property on New Zealand north island Helena Bay Lodge offers visitors four private beaches and multiple coves along its three kilometres of pristine coastline.

During the design stage Helioscreen’s retractable roof systems were selected for the project due to their ability to cover the 100sqm pool side space while providing the flexibility of opening or closing at the touch of a button.
Working closely with Clayton Sceats of Lahood and Simon Jones from Jones Architects in Auckland Helioscreen’s team assisted with initial design challenges through to logistics and supervised site installation to ensure the project went smoothly.
Controlled via the homes building management system and six integrated Somfy motors the waterproof Helioscreen systems were custom built for the project before transporting to site to be integrated into the custom designed steel support brackets.
Using a unique Dickson embossed architectural membrane along with a custom colour from Dulux’s Fluroset powder collection offered the perfect colour combination to bled into the existing façade of the building.
The installation process was done with a team of 4 over 3 days thanks to the forgiving weather during these days. The installation presented some unique challenges due to the various steps in the wall along with several drain pipes that needed to be avoided.
For visitors to the lodge looking to relax, lounging by the poolside under the retractable roofs or a picnic by the ocean side are just a couple of the lunch options. Whatever your mood, the Chef and Lodge Staff are always on hand to look after your request. If you prefer a little more adventure day perhaps a game of tennis, hiking, paddle board, mountain biking, sea kayak or fishing may be more your style.
Dining at Helena Bay is also something special. Head Chef Michele Martino was born in Southern Italy. He has trained in the culinary art of fine dining restaurants all around Italy and Europe. Each night the choice of dining venue is yours; an elegant candlelit dinner in front of one of the many roaring log fires or on the terrace looking out to the Pacific Ocean to be complimented with your selection of wines.
