Brisbane CBD retractable waterproof roof system, for a Cocktail Bar/restaurant in Fortitude Valley
Which bar? : Dirty Sultan.
This restaurant and cocktail bar was screaming out for a solution to cover the rooftop area for when bad weather would strike. They had previously installed a system to try and achieve this; however, it failed dismally. This is where Helioscreen came to the rescue like a superhero to a damsel in distress.
Providing the required coverage
The requirements were for a 10000mm Wide x 8000mm system to fully waterproof the decedent soft furnishing and elegant décor. This was achieved with the Smooth series HS13 system from Helioscreen.
The tricky details
This project required an outside the box solution to the drainage issues this restaurant faced. They did not want to lose any head height as they were after that lofty feeling for the restaurant space.
They were able to achieve this by installing the system a 1.7% side fall allowing the water to flow on the existing roof, The ability to have one fabric skin to span the entire width resulted in no water leaks, unlike the previous system that had been installed. This system also had a custom overhand to ensure the area was also protected from an angular rain.
What about the view
The interior of the establishment also required protection from the harsh sunlight and heat; this was able to be achieved by using the HMX130 zip systems. Previously the venue had transparent blinds however they, unfortunately, were not performing as required. The HMX130 zip system utilising the Serge fabric provides the requirements. And blend seamlessly to the building.
Blending into the building
Matching the system to the intended colour scheme, the designer had a vast choice from the Dulux powder coat range. These colours seamlessly integrated the roof into the existing structure and complimented the tones of the timber and soft furnishing, allowing it to blend into the surrounds while providing an elegant aesthetic.
As there are many colour options and types of fabric that were available to the owners and they were able to select a fabric that works best for their requirements. This enabled them to have a colour they were happy with while being completely protected from the harsh up and elements and along light to illuminate through.
This space now creates a functional area for the owners while keeping the luxurious feel of a Turkish bar and the confidence of keeping the patrons safe and dry to enjoy their experience. Why not experience it for yourself?
