Shading solution for alfresco area in Canberra.
Providing a cool environment
This recently constructed home has an alfresco entertaining area, allowing for an enjoyable indoor / outdoor lifestyle. The outside space, complete with full kitchen and TV, is used all year round. During the hot summer months however, the aspect of the home makes it an unbearably hot area. The homeowners required a functional but discreet product that would work with the parameters of this open space. One of the main considerations was that the shade system was to have no gaps at the sides, so that it provided full shade and maximum glare reduction.
The solution
The product chosen was the HMX130-ZIP Blind. This product allows you to have blinds up to 6 metres wide with the fabric retained in a “Zip” channel preventing any light gaps, giving a seamless aesthetic to any project.
Colour was also a big concern for the residence. The customer chose colour options from the Dulux powder coat range. The colour seamlessly matched the existing structure and complimented the tones of the sandstone and surrounding landscaped area, allowing it to blend into the surrounds while providing an elegant aesthetic.

The fabric also played a big part in the final decision on using the Helioscreen HMX130 ZIP. The material chosen for this project was the Helioscreen Serge fabric. This fabric is a triple woven Fiberglass core PVC coated item with 3% openness, giving the strength and stability that the zip system requires and the protection from the harsh summer sun in Canberra.

Outcome
The customer was amazed by how much the heat was reduced in the space, allowing them to use their alfresco area to its fullest.
