What Is the difference between a retractable awning and a drop awning?
Retractable Awnings extend out horizontally via articulated “arms” that contain springs which force out the fabric, usually at a pitch of approximately 10 to 20°. They provide shade from the high summer sun in the hottest parts of the year, greatly increasing the usability of decks and balconies.
In comparison, the Straight Drop Awning drops vertically over a window to provide interiors with protection from heat and control of external light.
Both types of awning can be manually operated with a crank handle, or motorised for greater convenience.
